Information for GPs

Two ways of working

Brief therapy — Psychodynamic Interpersonal Therapy (PIT), 8 to 16 sessions. A defined, time-limited treatment with randomised trial evidence in depression, self-harm, and medically unexplained symptoms. Often appropriate when CBT has already been tried without lasting benefit.

Longer-term psychotherapy — the Conversational Model. Weekly, open-ended work for patients whose trauma has shaped how they experience themselves and other people. Developed at the University of Sydney, where I coordinate the Masters programme and supervise trainee therapists.

Medicare
